For many years the media has displayed certain traits and a typical look of what makes a woman appealing and sexy. These traits have affected how many women all over the world have seen themselves. For example Barbie was designed as a perfect model of a woman; which is the image that is displayed in every child’s head. She was shaped to be something that every little girl looks up to because barbie’s life was perfect. She lives the most luxurious life and this image is implanted in many little girls heads of what their lives should look like and what is necessary to make a person’s life happy.
Barbie is never displayed as poor or average, she lives the most extravagant life.
Even though many girls who play with her can never relate to her; she still displays this iconic image of women that is tattooed on our brains for life.
There is many young girls who have struggled with self-esteem and have been teased because they dont fall into the category of what is suppose to be sexy but in my books there is no specific look that is sexy. Sexy comes in many shapes, colours and sizes. Everyone in their own way is sexy no matter what they look like. So embrace who you are and think nothing less of yourself. You are great, you are beautiful, you are the definition of sexy!

After reading this post, I would have to agree with the above comments because as a young woman I fall into the trap of what the meaning of true beauty entails. At times I catch myself wrapped in the ideal that to be a perfect woman one has to look thin to be beautiful because the media displays women with the perfect, fit bodies and beautiful faces yet in reality most of these Hollywood women are women whom have gone under the knife to fix and imperfection of have obsessed over loosing weight and this leaks over onto the younger girls of this century. I believe that Hollywood has fostered this ideal that looking “perfect” is the way a man and woman should look like. Television shows such as Keeping up with the Kardashians or even Botched displays images to young audiences that beauty and a luxurious life is the lifestyle one should strive for rather than living a humble and respectable life. we need to become role models for children who are being exposed to this lifestyle and show the change that beauty comes from within and that inner beauty shines through onto the exterior. Confidence is sexy in a man and woman because confidence is when an individual has accepted themselves for who they are as a person and not the play dough version of what society wants us to be or look like.

I would have to agree with the points made above. I believe beauty ‘sexy’ is in the eye of the beholder. And what might please and appeal to one, may not the other. The media is proliferated with a the notion of the perfect definition of beauty. But that is not reality. Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
